Conflict & Devastation
War erupted in Kosova in 1999, and almost 1 million people fled across the borders. The Kosova refugee crisis was one of the worst humanitarian disasters in Europe since World War II. In the aftermath of the war, Kosovars returned to pick up their shattered lives. Thousands of returning refugees found their homes looted and burned to the ground. Almost half of Kosova's schools were damaged or destroyed, and thousands of landmines were planted across the province.

Islamic Relief in Kosova
Islamic Relief established operations in Kosova in 1999, contributing to the relief and reconstruction efforts in the province. Islamic Relief's office in Pristina is working with the most vulnerable sections of the population.

Islamic Relief's projects have included emergency shelter, school rehabilitation, micro-enterprise development, psychosocial programs for women and children, as well as a mine awareness project contracted by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
