Due to the scale of deterioration in healthcare in low income economies, Islamic Relief has made it a priority to develop health projects in these developing countries, each according to its individual requirements. There are projects for mothers and their children in Bangladesh and Sudan and eye clinics to treat cataracts in Pakistan. There are also mobile clinics which work around the clock in refugee camps in Chechnya. We support hospitals in impoverished and war-torn countries, by providing essential medical equipment and ambulances as well as providing medical aid and reconstructing clinics in places such as Palestine and Bosnia. During 2001, Islamic Relief spent approximately $551,546 and the number of beneficiaries from these projects has reached 246,937.
