Sample Case Study - Hossain

Sample Reports: Hafsa, Maryam, Yusuf

Hossain - PDF Version

Name: Hossein
Age: 7 years old
Location: Bangladesh

Hossain used to live in a remote village with no road, just a broken pathway to walk on. His father Akddus Ali died of high blood pressure 6 years ago. When he was alive, he worked as a day laborer six months out of the year and as a fisherman the other six months. His income was low but he maintained in well manner.

Hossain has one brother and two sisters. His elder brother Raja Uddin works as a day laborer and lives with his wife in another house. His elder sister Rabia is also married and lives in her husband's house. After their father's death, Hossain's elder brother Raja was the only breadwinner for the whole family so Hossain's mother Chandra Mala started to work at others' houses as a day laborer.

Before being introduced to Islamic Relief, Hossain never went to school and his family lived in a small house on others' land where rain water would fall through the roof.  After being sponsored through Islamic Relief's one-to-one orphan sponsorship program, the family has been well taken care of.

Hossain began attending primary school regularly and his family was provided with a small house made from CI sheet and bamboo. Hossain's family was also given a tube-well for drinking water so they could use the canal water to wash utensils.

With generous donations from his sponsor, Hossain's family was given enough money to eventually buy and develop their own land for building an even better home. Now Hossain is living in a house made of brick walls, a CI sheet roof and there's a working restroom inside the house. Hossain, his sister and mother are all living in the new house and are very happy.

The house rests on 60% of the land bought with the sponsor's donations. The other part of the land was used to dig a small pond for fishing during the rainy season and sell at the local market. Hossain's mother has also taken training on cow rearing from Islamic Relief and received a cow on loan that gave them a calf.

The sponsorship also allows Hossain to receive regular health check ups at Islamic Relief facilities where he can get free medications from Islamic Relief for any disease. Now his health condition is good. Sometimes his mother feels pain in her right hands and she also goes to the doctor regularly.

All the villagers visit Hossain's house and comment on what a great heart his sponsor has. Hossain and his mother are very happy to get this house. Hossain's mother told us, "I never imagined I would get a house with [our] own land." His elder brother is living in another house in the same boundary.

Hossain and his mother told Islamic Relief, "We never imagined somebody would help us and we would get a good house with land."

"I will also get good opportunity for building up a bright future," added Hossain.

Hossain's mother told Islamic Relief that she hopes their honorable donor will continue his help, thanks him for his kindness, and prays that Allah will help him too.
