History of the Orphan Drive
In 2004, four MSAs joined together during Ramadan
- 120 orphan sponsorships were raised
- One sister from Plano, Texas raised over 30 orphan sponsorships alone
- One brother received 40+ requests for sponsorship forms after a 1 minute announcement prior to taraweeh
- The University of Houston MSA raised 14 sponsorships from students after one iftar dinner
In Ramadan 2005, organizations joined again for the Drive to Save Lives. Alhamdulilah it was quite a success.
Last year, with two weeks planning, MSAs joined together to help save the lives of orphans in Islamic Relief’s Orphan Sponsorship Program. Our goal was to sponsor 250 orphans in Ramadan 2007. With Allah’s blessings we were able to sponsor 427 orphans.
- Sunday school children ages 5 to 8 from Plano, Texas joined together in Sunday School raising funds to sponsor 20 orphans.
- Elementary school students in Michigan’s Genessee Academy raised over $20,000, sponsoring 50 orphans.
- The MSA at the University of California in San Diego raised 55 sponsorships.
- One sister raised 56 sponsorships from Tyler, Texas.
- The University of California in Irvine MSA made history, raising 149 orphan sponsorships.
