Amnesty International President to Speak at Bay Area Benefit Dinner for \'Children in Need\' Posted on 5/19/2005 BURBANK, California (May 19, 2005) – Amnesty International President, Chip Pitts, will be speaking this Saturday at a benefit dinner for "Children in Need" around the world. Many other well-known speakers, including Dr. Hatem Bazian, a UC Berkeley professor, will also be speaking at the event about the plight of needy children. The event is organized by the Bay Area Muslim community, and funds will be collected by Burbank, CA based charity, Islamic Relief USA.
This fund-raising event is one of many in a series of events across the country that Islamic Relief USA is holding to bring awareness to the plight of children. Islamic Relief representative Anwar Khan will be making a presentation about its relief and development projects to help needy children in different countries.
UNICEF statistics show that out of 100 children, 26 will go unimmunized against childhood diseases, 30 will suffer from malnutrition in their first five years, and 17 will never go to school.
