Included in Islamic Relief’s mission to alleviate poverty, is the immediate and efficient response to help the victims of natural and man-made disasters. Islamic Relief Worldwide was founded in 1984 in response to the famine in Africa. Although our projects have since expanded to include long-term sustainable projects, our commitment to helping those affected by unforeseen emergencies has not waned.

Islamic Relief Worldwide’s Emergency Response Team is highly skilled and experienced, having assisted the victims of every major humanitarian disaster since its inception. Often times, Islamic Relief staff arrives in the affected area within hours of the disaster to conduct a needs-assessment. Within days of surveying the damage and the needs of the victims, Islamic Relief projects are usually in place. Also, as part of Islamic Relief’s commitment to victims of humanitarian disasters, we maintain strong ties with the community after the effects of the disaster have subsided through seasonal projects, and, in some cases, opening permanent field offices.
